Native Foods, Palm Springs (among other locations)

My friends and I just returned from an awesome spring break trip to Palm Springs, where we got very tan and ate a lot of delicious food. So for anyone searching for food suggestions in Palm Springs, be on the look-out, because I’ll have a few more posts coming over the course of the week! Native Foods is a 14-restaurant chain which has locations from Boulder to Portland to LA. Everything is vegan, and it’s a typical vegan spot as far as the substitutions go- tempeh, tofu, seitan…it’s all there. The definite winner in our group was the indo noodle bowl- the peanut sauce was delicious, and the tempeh was seasoned and cooked perfectly. My only complaint was the amount of raw red onion (Scott Conant would be proud)- I love red onion but there was a LOT, and I spent quite a bit of time picking them out. Both orders of fries came out cold, however our waitress replaced them with piping hot ones, no problem. After sampling six different dishes, our general conclusion was that asian-inspired dishes are the way to go here- these are dishes that lend themselves best to being vegan, and the tofu/tempeh doesn’t seem out of place. Also their lavender lemonade is a must on any visit- and free refills! If you’re out and about, craving vegan food, Native Foods is a good bet, as long as you stick with items that don’t seem like they’re pushing the boundaries of veganism too much.
